7 Tips to Help You Ace Your Research Paper

  1. Explore our Subject Guides online. Here, you will find a selection of research guides, arranged by subject, to help you hone in on the best resources for your topic. Our librarians locate some of the most useful databases, journals, and collections for each subject area, taking the guesswork out of that initial hunt for sources.

  2. Make a research consultation appointment with a librarian to meet in person and discuss your research plans and questions. Visit our Ask a Librarian webpage for more.

  3. Check your citations from the couch with our citation style guide. A number of these styles guides are available in full text online, including the Chicago Manual of Style and the AP Stylebook. The Citation Style Guide offers links to other online resources. Updated copies are also available in the library.

  4. Stay organized by downloading a copy of EndNote. EndNote is a reference management software that helps you organize sources and create citations.

  5. Make an appointment at the Writing Center for a free, personal consultation for helpful feedback at any stage of your writing process.

  6. Reserve one of our collaborative workrooms for a peer review session with your fellow classmates. Rooms must be reserved at least one hour in advance.

  7. Graduate students can receive assistance with formatting theses and dissertations from our GRC staff. Formatting assistance is available on a walk-in basis and is not available during overnight hours.
