Eagle Tales: Centered on Students

I’ve worked at AU for a year and a half. Before that, I worked at the University of South Florida as a student programs coordinator. My job is to advise all the student directors under the Student Activity Council—Kennedy Political Union, Students for Change, Student Union Board, and the Spirit and Traditions Board—and ensure they have everything they need. I also organize all our department-led events, including drag bingo, jazz in the gardens, comedy shows, and campuswide programs like pups and pumpkins, live performances, and craft nights.
My office is in Mary Graydon Center, room 271. A typical day includes meeting with lots of students. I’m also always getting ready for the next event, of which our office hosts 10–15 each year.
My go-to lunch spot is Panera in MGC. It’s very convenient to come downstairs to pick it up. My favorite place on campus to steal a quiet moment is the quad. Campus is at its prettiest on a warm day when students are hanging out. The most famous face I’ve seen on campus is Tyler James Williams from Abbott Elementary and Everybody Hates Chris, who spoke at a KPU event last year. It was really cool to take a picture with him.
I show my AU spirit by volunteering at campuswide events like commencement. I enjoy going to events the university puts on for staff too, like the holiday reception and Staff Appreciation Week.
I found my community at AU by bonding with my coworkers. We spend a lot of late nights together, and we have a work hard, play hard mentality. The person who helped show me the ropes is Ayana Wilson, director of the Center for Student Involvement. She makes sure I feel supported every step of the way.
My favorite day of the workweek is Tuesday because everyone is in the office, and we all get coffee together at the Bridge. My go-to order is an iced caramel latte with oat milk.
My work-from-home rituals include making a coffee in the morning and hanging out with my eight-month-old puppy, Gatsby. I always cook when I’m home, so it’s nice to enjoy a homemade meal too. I do my Zoom meetings from Tatte Bakery and Café, where I can get breakfast.
When I’m not at work, you can find me at the movies or exploring new places in DC like Western Market Foodhall and Makan. My hobbies include cooking different cultural foods my parents made growing up, like pambazos and pollo a la crema, and hosting people at my apartment in Shaw. I also play League of Legends and Super Mario on the Switch, so shoutout to my fellow gamers.
The last great meal I ate was homemade enchiladas with red sauce. The last great book I read was Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. The last great show I watched was Suits. I was obsessed with it.
If I wasn’t at AU, I’d be a doggy influencer. Gatsby and I are on TikTok, and I think I have the aesthetic and the vision for it. But my job at AU is best because I’m fortunate to work with such passionate students.
