Support & Community Engagement

Each community will be overseen by a full-time Community Director (CD). In addition to the CD, each community will have  Resident Assistants (RA) who will serve as a resource and support to students on campus. CD and RA staff will provide virtual opportunities for students to connect with staff as well as each other.

Housing & Residence Life will also work with other offices on campus to ensure students are connected to the abundant resources available to them at AU, such as the Dean of Students, the Student Health Center, the Counseling Center, and more.

In addition to the Residence Life staff, The Resident Hall Association (RHA), a student organization on campus will offer several opportunities for students to connect as well. More information about what they plan to offer will be shared once students arrive on campus.

In-Hall Staff

In-hall staff include resident assistants (RAs) and community directors (CDs). Andersons' RAs live on each floor, acting as peer educators and helping residents transition to university life and connect to their community. The Anderson community has two CDs, professional staff members supervises RAs to foster a living-learning environment to bridge the academic and residential experience.

Additional support is available to all residential students from our 24/7 community front desk staff. Our Desk Receptionist (DR) staff are vital within our communities to ensure a safe and welcoming experience. DR's are trained to assist students with concerns, answer common questions, and connect students to resources.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Community Directors and Resident Assistants will e-mail all students in their communities within a few days of the start of MSRE. CD's will be available to students to schedule meetings and will offer weekly drop-in hours if students have any questions or need support. Resident Assistants will also have drop-in hours and be available within the community.

  • Residential students are permitted to have 1 additional person in their space who is also a resident of an AU-operated building for Spring 2021. No more than 2 people are permitted to be in any room or suite common area. These students must be checked in and verified at the front desk of the building upon entry.
  • No outside or non-AU affiliated guests are permitted.

During move-in week, there will be virtual gatherings allowing students to learn more about the expectations of the community and socialize with others who have arrived on campus. After move-in, there will be a full virtual community meeting that is mandatory for all students to attend to ensure they are informed and aware of all the community and university guidelines as well as resources available to them.

Residence Life will hold virtual programs over the course of MSRE, providing opportunities for students to connect, learn, and explore AU. As MSRE progresses, the possibility for in-person physically distant events will be evaluated based on Washington, D.C. and AU's health & safety guidelines.

Work orders can be placed by going to 2Fix Customer Response.

When placing a request, the following are very important to note:

  • Verify contact phone number and email address on the work request.
  • A facilities technician will call to set—up an appointment when he/she plans to arrive at the room for follow-up repairs.
  • During the phone call, the tech will request students to relocate to the hall lounge before staff enters the room to work. (All students MUST keep masks on.
  • The facilities staff will also ask to verify if anyone in the room and/or suite has tested positive for COVID-19 lately and if the room is under quarantine, which may impact their ability to enter the room at that time.
