Summer Housing

ELGIBILITY 

Summer housing is only available to AU students enrolled in summer and/or fall courses or who graduate from AU in May. Please email housing@american.edu if you have questions about your eligibility.

On-campus dining services are not available over the summer months.

Location 

Students will be housed in the Frequency in single occupancy apartments. Accommodations are fully furnished and including an in-unit bathroom and full kitchen. 

There is no live-in staff in the Frequency during the summer months.

For on-site assistance, please visit the Frequency concierge front desk or call 202-759-9159. The desk is operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Summer Housing Dates 

  • The first day for summer move-in will be Wednesday, May 6. 

  • Students who live on campus in Emergency Housing for the spring term will move from their spring to summer assignment beginning Wednesday, May 6. Additional details will be provided to Emergency Housing residents via their AU email. 

  • Summer housing closes on Saturday, August 8. 

Summer 2020 Housing Rates 

All housing rates are for the entire summer (May 6 – August 8). All summer housing units will be single occupancy per apartment.

  • Small studio: $3600 

  • Large studio: $4200 

  • Large 1 Bedroom: $4800

  • 2 bedroom: $6000 

Summer housing residents will be charged the full summer rate based on their housing assignment.  Students who check-out before August 8 will be prorated based on their check-out date. Any student moving out before August 8 should email housing@american.edu at least a week in advance of their intended move out date to cancel their summer housing assignment.

Applying for Summer Housing 

Log into your AU Housing Portal and select the application for "Summer Student 2020." There is no deadline to apply, but students should apply at least 10 business days prior to their requested move-in. 

After submitting the summer application, please respond to your Application Submission Confirmation email with your desired move-in date for the summer term. We will then work on your assignment and be in contact with you.

Cancelling Summer Housing 

Summer housing residents will be charged the full summer rate based on their housing assignment.  Students who check-out before August 8 will be prorated based on their check-out date. Any student moving out before August 8 should email housing@american.edu at least a week in advance of their intended move out date to cancel their summer housing assignment.

The Market (AU’s campus food pantry) is providing 24/7 accessibility to all students who will be residing in summer housing. You will have access to Letts Lower Level exterior door and interior Market door beginning Tuesday, May 12. The Market is located in Letts Lower Level, room 2. The entrance is across from McCabe Hall on the opposite side of the building from the Letts residence hall entrance.

Summer residents can utilize the AU shuttle stop in front of the Wawa near the Frequency to take the AU bus to the Letts stop on campus. Any students residing in summer housing who are unable to pick up items due to illness or other reasons can contact Tony Hollinger (aholling@american.edu) to make alternative arrangements. 

Mail is deposited in the Frequency mailboxes which can be found in the building's front lobby. Larger packages are taken to the 1st-floor package room.

The concierge staff at the Lobby Front Desk will retrieve packages for students upon request. Mail and packages should be addressed to 4000 Brandywine St NW, Room XXX, Washington DC 20016. Mail keys are provided by AU staff upon check-in.

No visitors/guest will be permitted in the residence halls while the stay at home order is being enforced.

The Frequency Apartments has WiFi connections within each unit. In each apartment, there is a sticker on the WiFi router, located in the living room of 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units, and in the living space of studio units. This sticker contains the login information for each unit's WiFi access point. For WiFi access in community spaces, please see signs on the wall for connection instructions.

Students should email frequency@uippm.com to report any maintenance issues. Most maintenance is handled by the Frequency management staff. Please do not submit maintenance issues to 2fix or to AU Facilities.
