Where are you located?

American University is located at 4400 Massachusetts Ave, Washington, DC, 20016, in one of northwest Washington, DC’s most beautiful residential areas. AU is just minutes by bus, cab, Metro, or car from the city’s most famous sites.

What time can my group check in and out of housing?

Check-in is after 3:00 PM on your scheduled arrival date. Check-out is before noon on your scheduled departure date.

Are all of your residence halls air-conditioned?

Yes. All of the residence halls come equipped with air conditioning, with individual flow controls in each residence hall room. 

I am over 21, can I bring alcohol into the residence halls?

No. Alcohol is not permitted in any AU residence hall. Additionally, alcohol is not permitted on campus without special permission from the Office of the University President. 

Will my some of my group be housed in difference floors or residence halls from other members of my group?

We will place members of your group together on the same floor in the same residence hall unless otherwise requested.

What is a one stop shop?

American University prides itself on being a certified "one stop shop" providing one point of contact, one contract, and one final bill. Let us do the coordinating for you!

Can you coordinate my dining, catering and meeting space needs?

As part of a one stop shop, we work directly with dining, meeting space, facilities, parking, and audio visual departments to ensure your needs are met when hosting a conference on our campus. Because of the variety of options involved in catered events, we will put you in direct contact with the catering director to work out specific details of your function. However, your catering bill(s) will be included in your final invoice from the university.

What dates can I bring my group to American University?

Our 2015 summer season begins on May 10, 2015, and ends on August 15,2015.

How secure is your campus?

Our residence halls are accessible only to summer guests with a Summer 2015 Guest Card or students living on campus with an AUID. Also, the residence halls are staffed with conference assistant at front desks on each side of campus. Additionally, our public safety officers patrol campus regularly - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Are you nearby a Metro stop?

Yes, we are closest to the Tenleytown/American University Metro stop. American University has a shuttle that runs directly from that station to main campus, which is complementary for AU students, faculty, staff and summer guests.

Do you provide linens?

Yes, all conference guests will find their bed and bath linens in their rooms on arrival. Linens are not provided for AU students, Washington Semester Program students and intern guests.

In addition, we also provide fitness center access, shuttle access, internet access, and 1 parking permit per residential guest.

What should I be aware of when hosting minors on AU's campus?

All groups hosting minors on campus will require background checks for their counselors.

What are the rules for smoking on campus?

AU is officially a tobacco and smoke free campus.
