You are here: American University Campus Life Housing & Residence Life Waitlist Selection

What is the waitlist?

The waitlist process is available for returning students who did not secure a housing assignment through RSRS. This is a separate process from room change processes, which are only available to students with a fall booking they wish to change.

The waitlist process does not provide applicants the opportunity to request a specific space, but rather, to participate in waitlist selections to choose from available spaces on-campus.

Housing Options

Frequently asked questions

Waitlist applicants are not guaranteed a housing assignment or specific roommate during waitlist selections. However, last year all waitlist applicants had the opportunity to select a space on-campus between March and July. Students are encouraged to have multiple halls in mind when participating in a waitlist selection as their top preference(s) may not be available.

To apply, complete the following steps:

  • Log onto your AU Housing Portal
  • Select the 2020-2021 Academic Year application
  • Click apply now
  • You will be redirected to the waitlist application

At the conclusion of Returning Student Room Selection we anticipate that all on-campus housing spaces will be filled. As such, waitlist selection will include spaces that become available as a result of cancellations. Each waitlist selection will have different available spaces and we expect the variety and number of available spaces to decline as the waitlist processes progresses through the summer.

Waitlist selections will take place approximately once a month, but may take place more frequently based on space availability. These dates may change and students on the waitlist should regularly monitor their AU email account for waitlist selection updates in advance (typically a week in advance) of each selection. If a student does not select a space during a given waitlist selection they will have the opportunity to participate in the next selection or until the waitlist concludes. Below are the anticipated selection dates:

  • April 22
  • May 10
  • June 10
  • July 8*

* We anticipate this date to be the final wait list selection date and all fall spaces to be full at this time.

As we do not anticipate multiple open spaces in a given  room during waitlist selection, waitlist participants can only select as an individual and not as part of a group.

Students are not assigned numbers on the waitlist, but rather are part of the waitlist group. All waitlist participants can select at the same time when each waitlist selection begins.
