We are a people in mourning. We grieve for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade and too many others. We despair of the violence done by white privilege and racism on black and brown persons and the seeds of despair it sows in our communities. We struggle with how to transform our nation, our neighborhoods, our campus, and our own lives. The Office of the University Chaplain invites the American University community and friends to join together in solidarity from our own spaces with a candle as we bear witness to our tears and our resolve to the light of hope for a more just future.
