Eagle Summit

Eagle Summit is American University's orientation program for first-year students who will be starting at AU in the fall, and is designed to welcome you and your guests to American University. During the Summit, you will learn about academics and campus life at American University, while meeting other new students. Your group will be led by a current AU student who will help you acclimate to the university. In addition to learning more about academics at AU, you will learn your way around campus, spend a night in a residence hall, take your AU ID Card picture and much, much more. By the time you leave the Summit, you will be well on your way to success. We can't wait to see you at one of our Summer or August Eagle Summit programs!

Eagle Summit Registration

Registration for Eagle Summit 2019 will open in early April 2019 for students beginning at AU in Fall of 2019. Students joining American University in Spring 2019 should register for January Orientation.

Make sure to check out Services for New Undergraduate Students , which has all the information you'll need before arriving on campus for Eagle Summit!

Summer Eagle Summit

Summer Eagle Summit sessions are two-day (overnight) programs, which give students the opportunity to experience campus, spend the night in a residence hall, and make connections with their peers prior to the start of the fall semester. The sessions are hosted in June and July.

2019 Summer Session Dates

  • Session 1: June 20-21
  • Session 2: June 24-25
  • Session 3: June 27-28
  • Session 4: July 1-2
  • Session 5: July 8-9
  • Session 6: July 15-16

Students will be staying in a traditional residence hall with other new students, orientation staff, and residence life staff. Students are required to stay on campus the first night of Eagle Summit. We also offer an option for students (and parents) to check into their residence halls the night before Eagle Summit (called "Early Arrival"), but it is not required.

  • $165 for students
  • $95 per family member (over the age of 12)

August Eagle Summit

August Eagle Summit is similar to summer Eagle Summit, but is held during Welcome Week. The sessions are one-day programs which provide students with the "nuts and bolts" of information that they will need, prior to the start of classes. Students will be able to explore campus, learn about resources and make connections with their peers. Since the August Eagle Summit sessions occur during Welcome Week, they do not include an overnight experience.
