All American Welcome 2019

All American Welcome is designated as the official period to welcome American University's new students to campus. This transition period provides a valuable opportunity for the building of the AU community by bringing together new students on campus. It is a time to encourage student involvement, boost school spirit, and create life-long memories. The week is packed with plenty of fun events from convocation, to Explore DC, to bingo, to free movies, and outdoor activities. There's something for everyone during this incredible week! Below is a detailed schedule, including locations, offices, and event descriptions!

First-Year Students Assemble: Enjoy refreshments provided by the American University Alumni Association and get your "official" Class of 2023 T-shirt to wear for the Convocation processional. Are you interested in taking dance courses at AU? Join us for Level Placement - the first step to dancing at AU! Level Placement is an assessment of students’ current dance skills. In this class-type setting, students will learn and demonstrate exercises from various dance forms including African, Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap and Urban. Faculty observe and assess students’ skills throughout the class, looking at each dancer holistically. Students then receive their placements and recommendations from faculty about courses to take in the Fall and Spring.

Employers range from AU Athletics and Public Safety to off-campus organizations such as the Kid Power and the National Air and Space Museum. DC Reads tutor sites will also recruit at the fair. Only students with FWS awards should attend. Dress professionally, bring copies of your resume and legal identification documents, and be prepared for on-the-spot interviewing and hiring.

Getting PrEP'd against HIV

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a safe and effective way to prevent getting HIV. The Student Health Center provides this service for males who have sexual contact with other males, as well as anyone else who may be at an increased risk for the acquisition of HIV. Dr. Reitman from the Student Health Center will talk about PrEP, and how students can easily obtain the medication at the SHC . In addition, he will discuss and answer questions about having safe(r) LGBT sex, positive Grindr hookups, and any other topics about LGBT sex that students may have.
