Recommended Configuration

Please note: Any laptop or desktop computer sold by Apple will work on our network, but we do recommend the following configuration:

Apple Mac - Laptop
  • OS X
  • Microsoft Office
  • 4 gigabytes or more random access memory (RAM)
  • 500 gigabyte or larger hard disk
  • 13-inch or larger display
  • built-in DVD-writer drive
  • built-in Ethernet network interface
  • built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless adapter
  • inkjet or laser printer
  • carrying case
  • AppleCare Protection Plan for three-year extended warranty

Other Options to Consider

Below are some other options that you may want to consider:

  • Upgrade to 8 gigabytes (GB) of memory, for better performance, if funds permit.
  • Consider upgrading to a larger hard drive, for greater multimedia storage, if funds permit.

We recommend notebooks over desktop computers, but if you do decide that a desktop is what you want, you don't need the wireless adapter. It will already have Ethernet built-in, and each residence hall room has Ethernet ports available for high speed Internet access for each resident.

The notebooks, other than the MacBook Air, will also have a built-in Ethernet port, and it is recommended that you use the faster and more secure Ethernet wired connection while you are in your room or office.
