I am writing to inform the AU community that for the duration of my current assignment as acting president, Dr. Ivy Broder, dean of academic affairs, will serve American University as acting provost. With some adjustment of responsibilities within the Office of the Provost, Dean Broder will continue to perform most of the duties of her current position during this period. The campus community is familiar with Dean Broder’s broad-ranging duties and her important contributions to the academic mission of American University. After earning her PhD in economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dr. Broder came to AU in 1975 as a faculty member in the Department of Economics. She is widely published with articles that have appeared in prestigious journals. Her achievements at AU include selection as the outstanding teacher in the Department of Economics, recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences Award for Outstanding Contributions to the University, and service as chair of the university’s Committee on Faculty Relations. She served as dean of faculties and then as dean of academic affairs since 1993. I am grateful to Dean Broder for her willingness to assist the university during this period.
