|SUBJECT:||2011 Campus Plan – Public Comment Draft|
This week we are distributing for review a public comment draft of American University’s 2011 Campus Plan. We welcome your thoughts on this document, which is a vital building block for AU’s future.
The District of Columbia requires that every 10 years colleges and universities submit a plan that outlines projected facilities growth and campus enhancements for the coming decade. We are sharing our plan draft with the campus and surrounding community for comment and response prior to being submitted to the D.C. Zoning Commission for public hearings and their evaluation. AU is the only university that submits a draft to the community in advance of the actual filing.
Attached is AU’s 2011 draft plan. Following public review and modifications as needed, we will submit a final version to the zoning commission in early March.
The 2011 Campus Plan was developed to support the goals of AU’s strategic plan (approved by the Board of Trustees in 2009), and it outlines the facilities needed to advance AU’s academic aspirations. Eighteen months in the making and the focus of lively dialogue with the neighboring community, the plan reflects AU’s intent to strengthen its academic prestige, maintain our standing as an asset to Washington, D.C., and honor a commitment to be an amenity to the surrounding community. As the plan developed, materials were posted on the community relations–campus plan Web site for public review.
Please review the plan draft and share your thoughts, suggestions, and questions. You can access the document and attachments online (www.american.edu/finance/fas/2011-Campus-Plan.cfm) and respond to email@example.com.
Thank you for your interest as we work to implement the goals of our strategic plan.
