It is important that we take time to acknowledge and remember the tragic events that shook the nation and the world ten years ago today. We mourn the many lives that were lost in the attacks and the valor of first responders on that day. We pay special tribute to the American University alumni—as well as other members of the extended AU family, including relatives, friends, and former students—whose lives were cut short.
As the AU community did in 2001, I urge you to draw strength and take comfort from one another on this solemn occasion. There are a number of events planned today and tomorrow, including service activities, worship opportunities, a candlelight vigil, and panel discussions.
