School officials, including Provost Scott Bass, held meetings with 22 leaders of African American student organizations formally affiliated with the university. Participants had frank and productive conversations on enhancing the academic and social experience for African American students. Topics included best practices from other U.S. universities, as well as specific actions AU can take to help mitigate some of the challenges African American students have encountered. This vital dialogue will continue this summer. Two additional meetings have been set and will include discussions of funding for student clubs that are committed to fairness and social justice – on the AU campus and beyond – and enhanced space and support for students.
