- Dr. Jennifer (Jen) Bakalar is a staff clinician at the American University Counseling Center. She provides individual and group psychotherapy, crisis assessment and intervention, clinical supervision, and outreach/consultation services. Before joining the AUCC staff, she earned her Ph.D. in the Medical & Clinical Psychology program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, M.D. She completed her APA-accredited doctoral internship here at the AU Counseling Center and a postdoctoral fellowship in the Victims of Violence Program at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass. Dr. Bakalar’s clinical approach is integrative and primarily grounded in contemporary psychodynamic and relational theories with an incorporation of cognitive-behavioral techniques. Her work is strongly informed by multicultural, social justice, and intersectional feminist perspectives. Her areas of specialized experience and interest include trauma survivorship, grief and loss, identity development, adjustment and life transitions, and family of origin concerns.
