- Dr. Jennifer Bakalar (Pronouns: she/her/hers) is a licensed psychologist in the District of Columbia and a staff clinician at the AU Counseling Center. She provides individual and group psychotherapy, crisis assessment and intervention, and outreach/consultation services. Dr. Bakalar completed her APA-accredited doctoral internship here at the AU Counseling Center and a postdoctoral fellowship in the Victims of Violence Program at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass. Her clinical approach is integrative and primarily grounded in contemporary psychodynamic and relational theories with an incorporation of cognitive-behavioral techniques. Multicultural, social justice, and intersectional feminist perspectives are core to her work. Dr. Bakalar’s areas of specialized experience and interest include the psychosocial impact of trauma and violence, grief and loss, adjustment and life transitions, and family of origin concerns.
