Marcus Bell (he/him/his) earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and a Master of Arts in International Studies (MAIS) from East Carolina University. Prior to being an AUx Instructor and Advisor at American University, Marcus first worked as a Guest English Teacher at Jungri Middle School in Daejeon, South Korea. His curiosity stimulated by interactions with non-native speakers of English, Marcus began dedicating his life to assisting English language learners to adjust to American culture. He worked as an English as a Second Language Instructor at his alma mater, UNCP; afterward, he served as an English as a Second Language Instructor and Advisor at Murray State University. During his time at Murray State, his understanding of diversity was further broadened through study and involvement with international, multicultural, and underrepresented student groups across campus. Marcus enjoys yoga and meditation and adding loads of hot sauce to everything he eats. Above all else, he possesses a unique passion for caffeine, and he spends most of his time outside of the office gallivanting the streets of DC in search for the perfect cup of coffee (current favorite spot is Un Je Ne Sais Quoi on Dupont Circle).
