Sara Heshmati is a doctoral intern at the American University Counseling Center completing her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa. Sara primarily utilizes a psychodynamic framework integrated with humanistic approaches to therapeutic change. She also approaches counseling from a feminist, multicultural foundation, aiming to understand client intersectional experiences interpersonally and systemically. Some of her counseling interests include women’s issues, trauma, family of origin, relationships, AMENA communities, and identity development (e.g. students of color; LGBTQIA+)
