Bio
Mary Ellen received an M.A. in Magazine Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and a B.A. in Photography and Journalism from the State University of New York at Potsdam. Prior to joining AU’s Women & Politics Institute, Mary Ellen enjoyed many years working on college campuses, both as a communications administrator and as a journalism professor. She served as Assistant Professor of Magazine Journalism at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications and Assistant Professor of Journalism at the State University of New York at Morrisville, where she also held the position of department chair. In addition, Mary Ellen worked as Senior Editor of Syracuse magazine in the Office of Publications at Syracuse University and as Interim Director of News Services at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Throughout her career, Mary Ellen has worked as a freelance writer and editor for national and regional magazines, newspapers and trade publications, often focusing on women’s issues, parenting and health topics.
