Bio
Tate Strickland is an interactive and visual communication designer whose work explores the interaction between digital experiences and physical spaces. He received a Master of Design from the University of Washington, presenting a thesis on wearable augmented reality and voice interaction in the art gallery. Having cultivated a professional expertise in mobile and web design, his teaching philosophy is inspired by trade-oriented skills and techniques combined with theoretical approaches. He teaches courses on motion graphics, web design and development, and introductory visual communication.
Tate's professional portfolio includes work for local and high-profile clients including Livestrong, NPR, Al Jazeera America, and National Instruments. He worked previously as a designer for thirteen23, where his UX and UI design work on Barack Obama's 2012 mobile app was awarded Best in Category ("Connecting") at the 2013 IxDA Interaction Awards and an International Design Excellence Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America. He received a 2017 De Cillia Teaching with Excellence award from the School of Art + Art History + Design at the University of Washington.
