Several resources are available to assist you with formatting your thesis or dissertation according to the AU guidelines and your chosen style guide. MS Word templates and LaTeX templates are available. Your school or college may review the formatting of your document and require changes if the document does not conform to the guidelines. Contact the ETD administrator for your school or college for more information.

Formatting Assistance

Students with questions about formatting in LaTeX can contact Assen Assenov x3861) in CTRL.

For assistance in the summer, students with questions about how to format in MS Word or the MS Word template can contact Mohammed Butt, the ETD coordinator at or (202) 885-3207 for assistance. In the fall and spring semesters additional walk-in formatting assistance is offered at the Graduate Resource center during the following hours:

Monday-Thursday 8am - midnight

Friday 8am - 9pm

Saturday 9am - 9pm

Sunday 9am - midnight

Students should review the formatting information on this site and attempt to format their document before contacting the GRC staff or ETD administrator for assistance.

Please note: Because final decisions regarding formatting review are made in the schools, GRC staff will not offer opinions regarding interpretation of the guidelines, nor review your document for proper formatting.
