Survey of Blockchain: Crypto, Entrepreneurs, and Technology (3) Blockchain, also known as distributed ledger, is a potentially disruptive technology in the financial markets and in many areas of business interactions. This multidisciplinary course covers cryptocurrencies and related topics in the FinTech area; the underlying technological infrastructure of blockchain and its applications; and entrepreneurial/innovation opportunities. Recommendation: Core Finance course. Meets with FIN-596 001.

Section Title: Text & Vis Analytics/Business
Text and Visual Analytics for Business (3) This course focuses on specific applications of text and visual analytics for business using unstructured data (e.g., text, social media, multi-media). Students learn to answer business questions by analyzing text, social media, multi-media, and other unstructured business data to discover previously unknown patterns, extract useful knowledge, and support business decision making. The emphasis is on quantitative and visual approaches that can be applied in general to text data in any natural language with no or minimal human effort. The course also introduces students to broad classes of techniques and both open source and commercial tools for analyzing and visualizing data at scale for use in business problem solving. Prerequisite/Concurrent: ITEC-320 or ITEC-610.
