The Beautiful and the Good (3) This course evaluates Foucault's claim that ethics is about the good life and that treating one's life as a work of art is a path to evolving and practicing such ethics. Readings include Foucault, Nietzsche, Benjamin, Marcuse, Sontag and Kristeva. The class also explores a variety of aesthetic productions that deal with these questions, including two plays (Rock and Roll and Red), paintings, music, film and ballet. Meets with PHIL-685 002.
