Community of Scholars students visiting the Department of State.

How to Apply

There are spaces still remaining in the course Worlds Apart, Worlds Together: Conflict, Culture, and Cooperation. Students interested in applying should complete the application here.  Before accessing the application, students may want to compose a 2-3 paragraph response to the following prompt: "Why do you wish to attend the Community of Scholars program?"

The other materials required to apply are as follows: 

  • Academic Recommendation Form (Please download this PDF and ask a teacher or counselor to complete and return it to you in a sealed envelope. Alternatively, the teacher or counselor may email the form to
  • Transcript (A photocopy is sufficient.)
  • Nonrefundable $250 deposit. The check should be written out to American University. Please note that the deposit is refunded if a student is not accepted into the program.
