Dr. Christopher Petrella teaches in American University's Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies Collaborative and serves as Director of Advocacy & Strategic Partnerships at the Antiracist Research & Policy Center. Beyond his work at the university, he plays a leading role in developing political education curricula for Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp. Christopher’s writing and scholarship examines intellectual histories of race and resistance in the United States and has been featured in The New York Times and on NPR. He is a regular contributor to The Washington Post and The Guardian and is currently under contract with Haymarket for his first book, provisionally titled, Real White: Histories of White Supremacy in New England. Real White challenges New England’s self-presentation as an imagined community of racial piety and antiracist myth-making over and against the U.S. South. He is a proud first-generation-to-college graduate and in 2016 earned his Ph.D. in African Diaspora Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. Follow along @CFPetrella.
