Bio
Hi. I’m Christopher and I teach in American University's Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies Collaborative and serve as Director of Advocacy & Strategic Partnerships for the Antiracist Research & Policy Center, also at American University. Beyond my work at the university, I co-produce the political education curriculum for Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp. In general, my scholarship explores intellectual histories of race and resistance in the United States and has been featured in print, radio, and television. I am a regular contributor to The Washington Post and The Guardian and am currently writing a book with Haymarket that contests New England’s self-presentation as an imagined community of racial piety, white homogeneity, and antiracist myth-making over and against the U.S. South. I proudly earned my Ph.D. in African Diaspora Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2016. Follow along @CFPetrella.
