The Centre for Democracy and Development: Abuja, Nigeria

- The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) will assist graduate interns by providing support for obtaining visas and other clearance for students to stay in Nigeria, arranging for secure accommodation in Abuja (students are responsible for cost of accommodation), and securing transportation for the student between their residence and CDD offices (students are responsible for transit costs).
- Internship program
- During the summer term, CDD will provide up to two (2) graduate students with internship opportunities. Graduate Interns with CDD will work on several research related tasks, including but not limited to substantive research projects and editing Democracy and Development: Journal of West African Affairs. Other tasks related to the journal may include recruiting authors, increasing its circulation, and identifying appropriate peer reviewers for articles. Interns will also organize at least one public event relating to CDD’s work close to the end of the internship. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by CDD as appropriate.
- Security note
- American University reserves the right to suspend the internship at any time due to safety and security concerns. If security concerns prevent graduate interns from traveling to Abuja, AU and CDD will determine if remote work and research can be conducted instead.
