Internships are a way of life at SOC. The School of Communication offers undergrad and graduate students the opportunity to get course credit for one internship but most students have two or three, thanks to faculty and alumni who share their professional contacts.
What other graduates are saying
"I found the Communication Studies major very valuable because I was able to take writing, film, and PR classes, and those are all necessary skills for online communication, especially when it comes to managing social media." - Joe Hornig, Communications Coordinator at the Family Medicine Associates of Alexandria
"The Comm Studies major is the best academic decision I made at AU. It taught me a bit in all areas of communication (PR, Journalism, a little film) and has allowed me to apply to a myriad of jobs and internships since I can honestly say I have learned about their field. It's a well-rounded major that gives you many career opportunities. I also learned a lot about the history of the field, common practices, and new trends. Comm Studies is such an underrated major and I hope more SOC students see the potential in this field of study." - Melissa Elgendy, travel Web site start-up
"I believe that the background [in Communication Studies] really helped me to find unique ways to communicate and connect with individuals which has aided me a great deal in my current work." - Jaclyn Quercia
