The Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum is a community museum in the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It is one of twenty museums under the umbrella of the Smithsonian Institution and was the first federally funded community museum in the United States.

Next Step Charter School

Next Step Charter School’s mission is to provide students who face extraordinary challenges and who are not supported in traditional high schools with the opportunity to continue their education. Originally chartered in 1996 by the Board of Education and unanimously granted a renewed charter in April 2011 by the DC Public Charter School Board of Trustees, we are the oldest public charter school in DC.

Academy of Hope Adult Charter School

Academy of Hope Adult Charter School’s mission is to provide high-quality adult education and services that change lives and improve our communities. Academy of Hope was founded in 1985 by two teachers who believed that education could empower those most marginalized in Washington, D.C. It was clear that people trapped in the cycle of poverty lacked basic reading, writing and math skills, and they needed to acquire jobs that paid living wages.

Street Sense Media

Street Sense Media’s mission is to end homelessness in the Washington, D.C. area by empowering people in need with the skills, tools, and confidence to succeed. Together we use a range of media platforms to raise awareness and spotlight solutions to homelessness in our community.

Rhode Island Avenue Main Street Initiative

Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street is one of twenty Main Street programs across the District of Columbia – each working toward the positive redevelopment of our city’s traditional business districts.

DC127

DC127 is an initiative of Washington, DC churches focused on working together to ensure the success of every child in foster care and those at risk of entering the child welfare system. As an initiative, we believe we have a responsibility and call to mobilize our communities and congregations to care for some of the most vulnerable children in our city.

DC Story Circle

The purpose of D.C. Story Circle Project is to facilitate community-building through the experience of sharing stories with others. Story circles bring community members together to share personal experiences of living in their neighborhood, and in turn reveal the character of life, culture, and development of different neighborhoods across Washington D.C.
