Laura Waters Hinson is currently in production on a short documentary following one of America’s most unique newsrooms: Washington DC’s street paper, Street Sense. The film follows the lives of Street Sense journalists, each of whom have their own experience with homelessness, as they engage in an in-depth investigation of DC’s “tent city.” The film will explore the lives of men and women living in downtown encampments through the first-person lens of journalists who know housing insecurity firsthand.

The film is a collaboration between American University’s Community Voice Lab and the Street Sense Filmmakers Co-op. Laura is directing and producing the film along with producer Bryan Bello, SOC PhD candidate and cinematographer and AU Alum, Kasey Kirby. CVL Fellow, Amelia Tyson, is serving as coordinating producer, and Fellows Eman Alghamdi, Grace Eggleston and Kathleen Gaeta are as additional shooters and production assistants.
