Bio
Helene Shapiro worked 19 years as a special education teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools. Presently she is an adjunct faculty in education, for American University, George Mason University, and Florida Atlantic University. She specialized in working with students with Autism, Downs Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities. Dr. Shapiro received her Ed.D. in Education Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University. Her dissertation, Positive Communication Skills and the IEP Meeting, involved an equal teacher and family partnership approach. Helene received a M.Ed. in Education Leadership and a M.Ed. in Special Education from George Mason University. She has a B.S. in Child Development/Family Relations from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Hobbies include enjoying her family (4 children, 4 grand-children) and traveling.
