Bio
Julie Wickham has been an undergraduate academic advisor in SIS since summer 2001. Initially an advisor for all SIS freshmen, Julie now works with undergraduate students at all academic levels. Prior to working at American University, Julie lived with her foreign service husband in Prague, Czechoslovakia; Tehran, Iran; Managua, Nicagarua; Georgetown, Guyana; and New York City. She taught English as a second language to children and adults in all these posts, as well as heading the Community Liaison Office for the State Department in Nicaragua. She also worked as a photographer in Prague and Managua. Prior to life as a State Department spouse, Julie was a secretary to the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee in Washington, DC, and to the Director of the US Cultural Center in Jerusalem. She subsequently lived on a kibbutz in Northern Israel, where she picked fruit and vegetables, drove a tractor, and learned to cook for hungry work crews there.
