SOE Presents Research at National AERA Conference
Fifteen SOE Faculty, Alumni, and Students Presented at the World's Largest Gathering of Educational Researchers
American University's School of Education had significant representation at the American Educational Research Association's (AERA) 2022 Annual Meeting in San Diego, which took place April 21-26, and was held in collaboration with the World Education Research Association. Educational research is the cornerstone of making informed change in education, and AU's SOE had fifteen faculty, alumni, and student presenters throughout the six-day conference. The theme this year was "Cultaviating Equitable Education Systems for the 21st Century."
Presenters Included:
- Dr. Brian McGowan, Associate Professor, is the Program Chair for Division J-Postsecondary Education
- Dr. Robert Shand (Assistant Professor), Dr. Reuben Jacobson (Director of Education Policy and Leadership Program and Senior Professorial Lecturer), Dr. kecia hayes (Senior Professorial Lecturer), Fanny Terrones (MEd Alumna), Melissa Stephans (student), and Julia Wolf (student) presented "Applying Lessons From Full-Service Community Schools to a Framework for More Effective District-Wide School-Community Partnerships"

Dr. Emily Grossnickle Peterson, Assistant Professor, presented "An Expectancy-Value-Cost Approach to Understanding Teachers' Perceptions of Curiosity in K–12 Classrooms" and chaired "Student Emotion Across Domains and Contexts"

The AERA Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of scholars in the field of education research, with typically 13,000 of its 24,000 members in attendance. It is an event to showcase groundbreaking, innovative studies in a diverse array of areas: from early education through higher education, from digital learning to second language literacy. Ideas and data are presented and discussed that will shape tomorrow’s education practices and policies, and where to connect with leading thinkers from the U.S. and around the world.
