Linda Manscillas Lecturer SPA: Government

Linda Mancillas is a Women's Research and Education Institute Congressional Fellow for 2010. During this fellowship, she is working on public policy issues in the office of Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA3rd) until August 2010. At American University, Dr. Mancillas teaches U.S. Politics, Latina/o Politics, and Women, Politics and Power. As a doctoral student at AU, Linda received the campus-wide 2008 Alice Paul Award and the 2005 Women & Politics Institute’s Outstanding Graduate Student Award. Professor Mancillas' dissertation research, The Law and Order Movement: Politics, Crime and Mass Incarceration in the United States explored the U.S. mass incarceration rate by developing a new social movement model. Dr. Mancillas holds a bachelor degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Political Science and in Women’s Studies. She was awarded the UAB Department of Government and Public Service Outstanding Undergraduate Award, the Outstanding Woman UAB Student Award, the Mary Wollstonecraft Prize, and the UAB Women’s Studies Award of Excellence for her scholarship.
