AU Gap: A Meaningful Experience

American University’s AU Gap Program is designed for high-achieving high school graduates and current college students who are deferring the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 semester at their college of choice and are seeking a meaningful and productive 7-8 credit internship and seminar experience.

Immersive, Experiential Learning

The AU Gap Program is a one or two-semester, non-degree, accredited program that focuses on a professional internship. Students work 3 days a week for a renowned DC organization from their hometown.

  • High school graduates take one experiential seminar in either American Politics or International Affairs in which they explore the topic via virtual site visits, online guest speakers, simulations and other hands-on educational methods.
  • College students and new college graduates can take one seminar in one of the following areas: American Politics, Foreign Policy, Justice & Law, Global Economics & Business, International Law & Organizations, and Journalism & New Media.
