Study DC

We know many of your students are looking forward to studying abroad in the fall, but with so many unknowns, these options may be limited or nonexistent. Your upper division students seeking a global view through study overseas may want to consider WSP as an alternative.

WSP offers a Foreign Policy concentration that may be of interest to these students, providing them with global perspective and experience in DC. Seminar topics include International Peace and Security, Global Politics, Global Communications, International Law, and Economic Policy. Just a few examples of internships for those wanting international experience: The Wilson Center, The World Bank, The Italian Embassy, The French American Chamber of Commerce, the US State Department, and USAID.

Gap Semester for Spring Admitted Students

Many colleges and universities offer international programs to spring admitted students the fall term. For the past six years, American University has offered a Gap Program centered around an internship and seminar modelled on the WSP program but geared to first year students.

The program features a WSP-style seminar designed to engage the student with the people and places that define DC, plus a 3-day-a-week internship supervised by an AU faculty member. Students can choose to add an elective course to enhance their readiness to matriculate at your school for the spring term. Students live on AU’s campus and have access to all university support services.

If you know you have spring admitted students who may no longer be going abroad, we invite them to apply individually for our Gap Program. If you are committed to send a cohort of 5 or more students, we can customize the program to meet your institutional needs and offer additional credits. And consistent with our WSP commitment, American University will not allow your student to apply to American University for 18 months after enrollment in Gap.
