In order to give special recognition to a dean who has given distinctive and meritorious service to the University, the Board may appoint him/her as Dean Emeritus.
A dean, who is leaving the deanship and whose years of service and accomplishments reflect exemplary performance, is eligible for this distinction. While a minimum of years of service as dean is not specified for this honorific designation, customarily it is well in excess of a decade of service as dean of an AU school or college. Upon the recommendation of a dean’s exemplary and distinctive service by the Provost, in consultation with the President, the Board may elect to assign the title of Dean Emeritus to a distinguished candidate.
Designation as Dean Emeritus is a lifetime appointment and is awarded without any financial compensation or remuneration to the honoree.
