Maryland

Maryland is a 2-day exam with ten state essays, one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test question, and 200 multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam questions.

Beginning with the July 2019 bar exam, Maryland will adopt the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). The exam will consist of two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test questions, six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam question, and a 200-question multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam.

MBE Subjects: Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal Law/Procedure, Evidence, Federal Civil Procedure, Real Property, Torts.

MEE Essay Subjects: Business Associations (agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies), Conflict of Laws, Family Law, Trusts and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trust and Future Interests), and Article 9 (Secured Transactions) of the Uniform Commercial Code plus all MBE subjects.

Multistate Performance Test: "Closed universe' practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.

MPRE: A scaled score of 85 is required for admission.

Scoring: the MBE will be weighted 50%, the MEE 30% and the MPT 20%.

Filing Deadlines: The Maryland Board of Law Examiners has not released specific information about the filing deadlines and fees for the July 2020 bar exam. Timely filing for the February 2020 bar exam is December 20th. Please check the Bar Examiners Website for updated information.

Fees: Bar exam application fee: $225. Late fee: $275. Notice of intent fee: $400.

Additional Laptop fees may apply if intending to use a laptop to take the exam.
