North Carolina
North Carolina is a 2-day Uniform Bar Exam (UBE effective February 2019) with six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam questions, two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test questions, and a 200-question multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam.
MBE Subjects: Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal Law/Procedure, Evidence, Federal Civil Procedure, Real Property, Torts
MEE Essay Subjects: Business Associations (Agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies), Conflict of Laws, Family Law, Trust and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trust and Future Interests), Article 9 (Secured Transactions) of the Uniform Commercial Code plus all MBE subjects
Multistate Performance Test: "Closed universe" practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.
MPRE: A scaled score of 80 is required for admission.
Scoring: The MEE and MPT scores are scaled to the MBE with the MBE weighted 50%, the MEE weighted 30%, and the MPT weighted 20%. The scaled scores are combined to determine if the applicant has achieved a passing score of 270.
Filing Deadlines: The deadline for applying to the February Bar Exam is October 2; late applications accepted until November 2. The deadline for applying to the July Bar Exam is January 1; late applications accepted until March 5.
Fees: Bar exam application fee: $850. Late fee: $250.
