Rhode Island

Rhode Island is a 2-day Uniform Bar Exam (UBE effective February 2019) with six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam questions, two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test question, and 200 multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam questions.

MBE Subjects: Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal Law/Procedure, Evidence, Federal Civil Procedure, Real Property, Torts

MEE Essay Subjects: Business Associations (Agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies), Conflict of Laws, Family Law, Trusts and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trusts and Future Interests), Article 9 (Secured Transactions) of the Uniform Commercial Code plus all MBE subjects

Multistate Performance Test: "Closed universe" practical questions using instructions, factual data, cases, statutes and other reference material supplied by examiners.

MPRE: A scaled score of 80 is required for admission.

Scoring: The MEE and MPT scores are scaled to the MBE, with the MBE weighted 50%, the MEE 30% and the MPT 20%. The scores are combined to determine if the applicant has achieved a passing score of 276.

Filing Deadlines: The deadline for applying to the February Bar Exam is December 1. The deadline for applying to the July Bar Exam is May 1. No late applications accepted.

Fees: Bar exam application fee: $725, plus $25 NCBE application fee.
