
Julissa Mantilla
Julissa Mantilla is a lawyer, studied in the Law School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). She obtained a Gender Diploma from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the PUCP and a Master's (LLM) from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), London, 2000. Professor Mantilla received a scholarship from the World Bank and the LSE to get her postgraduate studies. She is a Professor at the Academy of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law of American University. Professor of the Master on Human Rights and Gender of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. She was a lawyer for the Ombudsman's Office of Peru, conducting reproductive rights investigations, especially in cases of forced sterilization against Peruvian women. Professor Mantilla was also in charge of the Gender Line of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Peru and the investigation of cases of sexual violence against women in the Peruvian armed conflict. She was an International Specialized Adviser on Transitional Justice with a Gender Perspective for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). Professor Mantilla creates amicus curiae brief for the Special Jurisdiction on Peace in Colombia. Professor Mantilla has been an expert before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on issues of sexual violence, gender stereotypes, and due diligence. She is a member of the Latin American Network of Legal Scholars (Red Alas).
