AU’s offices and buildings will be closed for the winter holiday from Friday, December 23, through Sunday, January 1. During that time heating and lighting in buildings will be reduced, and so offices will not be conducive to work.
In rare cases where materials need to be retrieved, contact Public Safety for access. ID access cards will be disabled during the break.
Beginning December 23, campus offices, all dining services, tunnel shops, Jacobs Fitness Center, and the Campus Store will be closed. Shuttle service will also be unavailable during the break.
Residence halls will close at noon, December 21, and only Nebraska Hall, the Berkshire Apartments, and Congressional Hall on the Tenley campus will be open during the break.
Staff should check with their supervisors for staffing details before the break, and faculty and staff should activate out-of-office messages on e-mail and voice mail to notify the public of the university closing.
Other important points:
- Unit heads of offices and departments with essential responsibilities during the break should submit the names of essential employees to Human Resources by December 17.
- Administrative units should notify vendors and affected parties of the university’s closing. Public Safety cannot accept deliveries.
- Monthly employees will be paid December 29. For employees paid by check, checks will be distributed December 22 and dated December 29. Biweekly employees will be paid December 22 instead of December 23 for the pay period November 26–December 9. Timesheets for the pay period December 10–23 must be signed by December 21.
