LGBTQ Outreach

American University prides itself in being an affirming place for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, &queer community and its allies. Throughout your time here at AU, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs/events/services geared towards the LGBTQ community and those interested in LGBTQ issues.

Getting Involved & Finding Community

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion offers many ways for students to get involved with LGBTQ programs/events/services on campus & off campus:

  • Apply to be part of the LGBTQ Programming Board and sit on panels for RSB, become a peer advisor in Spectrum, or help out in other LGBTQ initiatives through the Center.
  • Join CDI's newsletter, follow us on twitter, like CDI on Facebook, or join the AU CDI LGBTQ Community FB Group to stay up to date with everything going on in the center.
  • Attend CDI's LGBTQA Fall Mixer and Information Fair, which happens every Fall during the first week of classes, the Coming Out Monologues every October, AND the annual DC LGBTQ Symposium every November!(check our events calendar!)
  • Browse our Guide to LGBTQ Life for information on student groups and other resources!
  • Request a LGBTQ Peer Advisor to get questions answered about LGBTQ life on campus and in DC. Available for current students & prospective students!
