Our two distinctive Masters degree options:

The Global Environmental Politics program offers a unique, specialized, and world-leading graduate environmental studies education.

We have two Masters degree tracks:

  • Natural Resources and Sustainable Development
    • A dual-degree program with the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica, for those interested in looking at international environmental protection and international development from both the Global South and the Global North

The GEP Experience

Our faculty and community partners in Washington DC offer expertise in the politics of sustainable development, energy, climate change, agriculture, urban design, freshwater issues, environmental conflict and peacemaking, and much more.

Our courses are connected by concern about environmental justice and ethics and the pursuit of effective forms of response to global environmental change.

Join the Global Environmental Politics Masters programs at American University's School of International Service to:

  • Work for environmental and social well-being in ways that matter.
  • Launch a career under the guidance of world-renowned faculty and accomplished peers.
  • Learn skills necessary to translate your passion in environmental protection and sustainability into a meaningful profession.
  • Belong to a university that is a leader in graduate environmental and sustainability education and practice.
  • Insert yourself into Washington, DC, the center of political life.
