December 5, 2014 - The Atrium structure is complete.

Exterior building envelope framing continues on both the Yuma and Nebraska wings.

Exterior sheathing continues on both the Yuma and Nebraska wings.

Plumbing, electrical work, HVAC ductwork, fire sprinkler system installation, and masonry block work continues on both the Yuma and Nebraska wings.

Room layout and interior wall framing continues on the third floor of the 1909 section of Capital Hall, as well as installation of basic plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.

Structural work started on the 1921 section of Capital Hall.Concrete batch plant was dismantled and removed from the site.

Past Updates

October 30, 2014 - The concrete structures of the Yuma and Nebraska wings are complete.

The four main support columns in the Atrium are complete, and construction of roof beams and roof deck are under way.

Connection to the main electric transformer on the Nebraska/Warren side of the site is complete.

Plumbing, electrical work, HVAC ductwork, fire sprinkler system installation, and masonry block work continues on the P1 and P2 parking levels.

Exterior building envelope framing is under way on the southwest side of the Nebraska wing.

Room layout and interior wall framing is complete on the first and second levels of the 1909 section of Capital Hall, as well as installation of basic plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.

October 3, 2014 - Claudio Grossman, Dean of the Washington College of Law, recently announced a change in the schedule for the Washington College of Law at Tenley. Read his message to the WCL community.

October 1, 2014 -The second levels of the Yuma and Nebraska wings are almost complete, and installation of third-floor columns, interior concrete walls, and elevator shafts is in progress.

Three of the four main support columns in the Atrium have been erected.  

Pepco's installation of power service on Warren Street is under way.  

Plumbing, electrical work, and masonry block work continue on the P1 and P2 parking levels.  

Room layout and interior wall framing are complete on the first and second levels of the 1909 section of Capital Hall, as well as installation of basic plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.

September 8, 2014 - Work is under way on the above-ground construction of the Yuma and Nebraska wings, as underground parking construction is complete.

Second-floor concrete deck construction is under way at both wings. 

Construction of second-floor columns, interior concrete walls, and elevator shafts also are in progress.

Concrete foundation work for the Atrium is complete, and installation of underground utilities in the area is under way.  

PEPCO's overhead service work on Warren Street is complete. 

Work on the permanent underground electrical service to the Nebraska wing is complete. Similar work for the Yuma wing is in progress.

Room layout and interior wall framing has begun on the first and second levels of Capital Hall, as well as installation of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.

August 5, 2014 - Concrete structure of underground parking levels P1 and P2 is complete.

Storm and sanitary piping, electrical conduit, and permanent lighting are being installed on the P1 and P2 parking levels.

Concrete deck of the Lower Level is complete and work is in progress on the north end to bring the structure to grade.

Work has started on the permanent electrical service to the Nebraska Avenue wing.

Underground drainage piping is being installed in the Atrium area.

May 15, 2014 - Excavation for the underground portions of the new buildings is complete. Removal of material from wall foundation and column footing excavation continues.

Selective demolition of interiors of Capital Hall and the Chapel is complete.

Two tower cranes have been installed and are operational.

Installation of wall foundations and column footings is under way.

Installation of under-slab utilities at the lower parking garage level is under way.

Pouring for first-level of deck slabs above completed portions of slab-on-grade is under way.

April 10, 2014 - Excavation for the underground portions of the new buildings is almost complete, with approximately another week's worth of work remaining, weather permitting.

Interior selective demolition of Capital Hall and the Chapel is complete.

One tower crane is operational, the second one is being erected currently.

Wall foundations and column footings installation is under way.

Installation of under-slab utilities is under way in what will be the lower parking garage level.

March 5, 2014 - Interior demolition of Capital Hall is complete.

Excavation is approximately 80 percent complete.

Set up of the concrete batch plant is in progress.

Concrete work is expected to begin this week with the construction of the tower crane foundation.

The tower crane is expected to be erected by the end of the week of March 10.

Concrete building foundations are expected to begin next week.

Upcoming Construction Activity

Bulk excavation is expected to be completed in early April.

Concrete foundations and underground garage construction are expected to continue from March through the summer 2014.

Above-ground concrete structure work is expected to run from summer through fall 2014.

"Top out" of the concrete structure is expected to be completed by fall 2014.

Exterior building skin (brick, limestone, windows and roofing) is expected to run from summer through winter 2014.

Interior construction for new Yuma and Nebraska Wings are expected to run from fall 2014 through Summer 2015.

Interior construction of Capital Hall is expected to run from spring through winter 2014.

Site work including underground utilities, hardscape, and landscaping are expected to run from summer 2014 through summer 2015.January 10, 2014 - Excavation on Tenley Campus is 50 percent complete.

Selective interior demolition of the second and third floors of Capital Hall is complete.

Selective interior demolition of the first floor of Capital Hall is expected to be completed by January 17.

Selective interior demolition of the lower level of Capital Hall is expected to be completed by January 24. 

November 12, 2013 -

Upcoming Construction Activity

October 30 – November 22 - Drilling and installation of dewatering wells.

November 4 – March 6, 2014 – Excavation and lagging of northern portion of work site.

November 14 – March 18, 2014 – Excavation and lagging of southern portion of work site.

November 11 – November 15 – Abatement of Capital Hall.

November 18 – January 17, 2014 – selective demolition of Capital Hall.

November 8, 2013 - Excavation began on November 4, and is averaging removal of 100 truckloads of dirt per day.

Pile driving is complete.

Drilling of de-watering wells continues and is approximately 50 percent complete.

November 6, 2013 - Pile driving for support of upcoming excavation is under way currently, and is expected to continue until November 15.

Excavation is expected to begin on the northern portion of the work site, and continue until early spring 2014.

October 25, 2013 - Sedimentation and erosion control fencing installation is complete.

Pre-drilling of pile location is complete.

Demolition of the old buildings is complete.

Material deliveries and fabrication for the sheeting and shoring operations are complete. 

October 21, 2013 - Construction Update Meeting Presentation

October 4, 2013 - Sedimentation and erosion control fencing has been installed.

Demolition of the buildings is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be completed next week.

Material deliveries and fabrication for the sheeting and shoring operations are in progress.

Soft demolition in all buildings is complete, as structure removal is expected to begin next week.

July 16, 2013 - Campus move-out is complete.

Surplus residence hall furniture in Congressional, Capital, and Federal Halls has been removed by the contractor using the Institution Recycling Network. The final destination is a charitable institution in Jamaica.

Congressional demolition and abatement continues.

Campus utility disconnects/decommissioning activities are ongoing.

Whiting-Turner's Dunblane site office is installed.  

July 1, 2013 - Installation of campus perimeter fencing is under way.

Selective demolition of interior components at Congressional Hall is under way.

June 20, 2013 - Internal demolition and abatement are under way at Congressional Hall. 

Disconnection and decommissioning of utilities is under way.

Whiting-Turner Contracting Company's site office has been installed at Dunblane Hall.

June 19, 2013 - An official ground breaking ceremony was held on June 12 for construction of the new law school. The ceremony was hosted by American University President Cornelius Kerwin and Washington College of Law Dean Claudio Grossman. Students, alumni, faculty, staff, neighbors, and friends of the law school attended.

April 5, 2013 - Coordination with Washington College of Law (WCL), for Office of Information Technologies and Public Safety requirements for the new campus continues.

Discussion on tree removal continues in coordination with OUA and Grounds department.

Review for construction is scheduled for April 17 and 18.

March 22, 2013 - Building demolition and raze permit has been filed.

Review for construction is scheduled for April 15 and 16.
