Christine Gettings is the Assistant Director of Global Learning and Leadership in the Center for Community Engagement and Service. She directs the Alternative Break program and other global community based learning experiences.
She has designed and facilitated trainings, seminars, and workshops on leadership, student activism, ethical global volunteering, diversity and inclusion, emergency management, intercultural communication, and the role of reflection in service-learning. She has accompanied students to the Thailand-Burma border to learn more about the Burmese democracy movement and the experiences of refugee populations in Thailand. Additionally, she has traveled to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland with students to study peacebuilding in divided societies.
Christine has studied, lived, and worked in the DC area for over 19 years and has experience working in the non-profit sector and in higher education. She most recently served as the Assistant Director of the Kay Spiritual Life Center where she was responsible for human rights education and interfaith community building and dialogue.
In the Fall of 2017, Christine will serve as AUx1 Instructor and is passionate about welcoming new students to AU and helping them find their purpose in our campus community.
Christine is serving as the Co-Chair Elect of the NASPA International Education Knowledge Community (IEKC). For four years, she was the Region II Representative to the IEKC.
