AU has a broad range of alumni affinity groups and networks that eagerly seek your active participation. These groups celebrate and support identity, industry, leisure, student activities, and student experience.
AU Around the World
American University has 49 domestic and international communities spread out around the world. Our alumni live in all U.S. states and territories, 160 countries, and all seven continents (including Antarctica every now and then).
Communities must be approved by the AU Office of Alumni Relations. Each AU Community is expected to:
- Have at least one alumnus/a committed to serve as community leader volunteer
- Have at least two named volunteers to help with events and promotion (as a co-leader and a planning committee member)
- Plan at least two events per year that serve different purposes (i.e. athletic, community service, career/networking, family-friendly, etc.)
Alumni Relations staff members are always interested in helping alumni launch new AU Communities where there are groups of interested Eagles! Contact email@example.com to discuss launching a new community in your area.
In regions with a small population of alumni, area representatives serve as the local resource for potential and current AU students, as well as alumni. Area representatives work with university staff members to augment outreach efforts in their region and assist with any alumni programming that might take place in the region through marketing and attendance at the events. To volunteer as an area representative or to learn more about the program, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Find Your Regional Community
AU Regional Communities are a great way to network with alumni, attend events, and engage with current students in your area. Regional Communities offer opportunities for networking, professional development, arts & cultural events, athletic events, community service, and political events.
