Welcoming the Newest Alumni Board Members

Meet the university’s next alumni leaders.

This year brings four impressive new members to American University’s Alumni Board. Their diverse perspectives and insights will strengthen our already-dynamic alumni leadership.

With a history dating back to the 1950s, the Alumni Board leads AU’s alumni association, providing perspective and insight to professional staff in outreach to alumni an improving student experience. On the board, all five schools and colleges are represented, as well as myriad professional industries, backgrounds, and generations. 

New members include:

Miguel Bustos, SIS/MA '95
Senior Director, Center for Social Justice at GLIDE (San Francisco)
Miguel is an active volunteer in the San Francisco regional community and with the School of International Service. In 2019, he won the School of International Service Alumni of the Year Award.

Ritanch Hans, SIS/BA '13, Kogod/MS '15
Communications Analyst, Dignari (Washington, DC)
Ritanch is immediate past president of the DC Young Alumni Chapter and was a founding member of the School of International Service Young Alumni and Friends Committee. He is also a former co-chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Alumni Network.

Don Mike Mendoza, SOC/BA '10, SOC/MA '17
Executive Artistic Director, La Ti Do Productions (Pittsburgh)
Don Mike is past chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Alumni Network as well as the network’s former signature events chair. 

Rachel Tabakman, SPA/BA '03
Board Affairs Manager, Girl Scouts of the USA (West Long Branch, New Jersey)
Rachel is a former member of the DC Young Alumni Chapter. She is also an active supporter of the Eagle and was part of its efforts to raise $50,000 towards the Eagle’s endowment.
