- Chemi Montes is a Tenured Associate Professor in the Graphic Design Program at American University in Washington D.C. He obtained his graduate degree in Graphic Design at The Pennsylvania State University, and his BA in Graphic Design and Audiovisual Media at the University of Salamanca, in his country of birth, Spain. His professional experience includes designing for print, video and film graphics, and the web. Prior to and outside academic life, a combination of agency and freelance practice has allowed Chemi to work with a diversity of clients ranging from small businesses and non-profits to Fortune 500 companies. He is the recipient of a Graphis Platinum award, in addition to earning top awards in numerous international juried competitions. His worked has appeared in many design books and periodicals, including Communication Arts, Graphis Poster Annual, Graphis Design Annual, Graphis Typography Annual, Applied Arts, GD USA, The American Graphic Design Awards, Creativity International Awards, and numerous other publications. He also presented papers at several conferences and has published writings on design and semiotics, one of his areas of interest.
