Intern Housing

Accessible, affordable and safe- American University makes it easy to work in DC.

INTERN HOUSING OVERVIEW

American University is situated in the Northwest area of Washington, DC- one of DC's safest and most beautiful residential areas. The AU campus is just a short ride from the city's most famous sites by bus, Metro, or car. Our free shuttle service connects the university to Washington's Metro Red Line at the Tenleytown-AU station, which is located just three-quarters of a mile from campus.

At this time, AU's Intern Housing Program is summer only

Are you a current AU student looking for summer housing? Please visit the Summer Student Housing webpage.

  • Located in Nebraska Hall, apartment style rooms include a full kitchen, common living area, and a private room within a shared apartment. Apartments will be shared with up to three roommates of the same identifying gender.
  • Traditional style rooms in Anderson Hall include a fully private room with a communal restroom on the residence hall floor.
  • Suite style accommodations in Federal Hall on East Campus include a fully private bedroom and private in-room bathroom.

Communal kitchens (barring Nebraska Hall), laundry rooms, lounges, and trash/compost/recycling are available in traditional and suite style accomodations. All rooms come furnished and include full linen sets (sheets, pillow, blanket, and towel), air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and utilities at no additional fee.  Complimentary access to on-campus fitness facilities and laundry facilities is also included.

Those staying in Nebraska Hall will share their apartment with up to three roommates. All apartment roommates will be of the same identifying gender; the individual creating their booking should select the gender they identify with to ensure they room with their gender: male, female, nonbinary. While we try to accommodate specific roommate requests, rooms and apartment are on a first-come-first-serve basis and we will continue to adhere to our same-gender policy.

Please note that, per the Housing Licence Agreement signed at the time of booking, guests are not permitted in the residence halls. Violation of this policy may result in the termination of your stay.
