Growing Security Apparatus in Xinjiang, China

Western news reports detail how the Chinese government is increasing security measures in Xinjiang, an autonomous territory in northwest China, home to many ethnic minority groups, including the Turkic Uyghur people.

Justin M. Jacobs, associate professor of history at American University, is a historian of modern China, and particularly Chinese borderlands. He is an expert on Xinjiang and can offer his insight into what is happening in Xinjiang both from a historical and present-day perspective. Jacobs is also the author of Xinjiang and the Modern Chinese State.
