Drop-ins are held twice per week on Mondays and Fridays, from 2p-4pm. Students should sign-in on the laptop at the DOS reception desk.

Access the online scheduling tool on the DOS website (american.edu/ocl/dos) click on “book now” to schedule an appointment with one of the DOS Staff members.

Medical – Faculty have the discretion to excuse any and all absences. If a student missed class due to a medical issue (illness, injury, hospitalization, doctor appointment), and the faculty member wants proof of this, please email dos@american.edu and attach medical documentation and dates you missed (or will miss) class(es). Do not submit medical documentation to faculty. 

Bereavement death of a family member. Faculty members have the discretion to excuse any and all absences. If the faculty wants proof, please email the DOS Office.

Please review the Class Attendance Policy (section 4.1) of the Academic Regulations. 

Students requesting incompletes should work directly with their faculty and academic advisor. Faculty have the discretion to grant Incompletes according to academic regulations.

First year students are not allowed a vehicle on campus. DOS requires a critical reason to grant a parking permit to a first-year student. First year students requesting parking exceptions should email DOS with reason for the request and include AU ID#.  If the request is medically related, please provide medical documentation as an attachment to your email.

  • Transcript requests (if student will be transferring to another university)
  • Course registration (if student is currently on medical leave)
  • Forgot to submit Readiness to Return documentation

If you have a DOS “stop” on your account for one of the reasons mentioned above, please email dos@american.edu include name, AU ID and reason for removing stop.
